Local SEO: How to Get Found on Google
A practical, non-technical checklist to improve rankings in local search and Google Maps so nearby customers choose you first.
Local SEO is how you show up when people search for services near them. The good news: you don’t need to “game” Google. You just need consistent, clear signals about who you are, what you do, and where you do it.
Start with your Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile (GBP) is the foundation of local visibility. Fill it out completely and treat it like a living profile, not a one-time setup.
- Use the exact business name you use everywhere else
- Choose the correct primary category (and a few relevant secondary ones)
- Add services, hours, and a short description
- Upload real photos regularly (not just stock images)
Make sure your NAP is consistent
NAP means Name, Address, Phone. Google cross-checks these details across the web. If your phone number differs between your website, GBP, and directories, it creates uncertainty and can hurt rankings.
- Use one canonical format for your address
- Use one main phone number (avoid swapping numbers frequently)
- Put NAP in the footer of your website
Create service pages (not just a single homepage)
One of the easiest ways to rank is to create a page for each major service and include your service area. For example: “Drain Cleaning in Dubai Marina” or “Bridal Makeup in JLT”. Keep it honest — don’t spam dozens of near-duplicate pages.
Get reviews and respond to them
Reviews impact both rankings and conversions. Make it part of your process: after a successful job, ask the customer. Then respond to every review (yes, even the short ones).
- Ask at the right moment (right after delivery / payment)
- Make it easy: send a direct review link
- Respond with specifics (mention the service type, thank them by name if appropriate)
Fix the basics: speed and mobile
If your site is slow or confusing on phones, people bounce. Google notices. Prioritize fast load time, readable text, and clear buttons.
A simple local SEO weekly routine
- Add 1 new photo to your Google Business Profile
- Request 1 review from a happy customer
- Publish 1 short post or FAQ update on your site
- Check that your hours and contact info are still correct
If you do the fundamentals consistently for 60–90 days, you’ll usually see meaningful improvements. Local SEO rewards clarity and trust — exactly what great local businesses already deliver.
